WA DF65 State Championship - 23rd September 2018

1The inaugural Western Australian DF 65 state championships were held at South Perth over the weekend with 11 skippers all up, with sailors coming from Perth, Albany and from NSW.

As we were setting up the breeze was trying to get going, but eventually, PRO Glenn Dawson had to set up a zigzag course on the lake to cater for the light WNW breeze that came across the lake. Not the best direction, but we got underway and drifted around for the first race of the day. Race one honors went to Adam Viney, Paul Martin (NSW) and Ron Viney.

An early lunch was called which allowed the breeze to swing around to the west and came through a bit more consistent, so with the course changes done, the priority was to get as many races in as possible. The change in breeze allowed a few other sailors to reap some rewards after a sluggish start to the day.

Lloyd Coles showed the way with the most wins over the day, with a total of 5 wins, Adam had 3.

Staying in the top 4 for each race proved the way to go to be on the podium at the end of the day.

There were 6 different winners across the 12 races, which is proving that all sailors are improving in there sailing and boat set up.

So the inaugural DF65 State champion is Lloyd Coles, with Albany sailor Geoff Oliver in second and Adam Viney in third. Well done guys.

A special mention to our travelers to the event namely, Paul Martin over from NSW and Geoff and Phil up from Albany, thanks for your support guys. Paul Martin was given the cut lunch and waterbag prize for the greatest distance traveled to attend the event.
