VIC RC Laser State Titles - 6/7th April

The Portland Yacht Club has entered into the world of RC sailing in very fine form. The commodore Mick Doherty welcomed the 16 RC Laser competitor's from Victoria, SA and Qld, before proceeding to have a race win on day one. Portland YC has a good fleet of RC Lasers regularly sailing and is centrally located between Adelaide and Melbourne, so ideal to attract good sized fleets.

The YC being a great base, offering bar, amenities and catered for dinner both nights making the regatta very social and interactive between competitors, family and friends.

Even the weather was kind to us. Racing was on B and C rigs, with top and bottom end conditions in each rig. The local sea lion didn't hassle us, however did turn up to all of the 100+kg tuna weigh ins, performed in front of the Yacht Club.

There are numerous course area's available each provides good long course's to be set in any wind direction, with 2 laps being held on both day's. Racing was from wide concrete floating pontoons, running side on with the course. A big thankyou to Mario Gulic for being the PRO for the event, although a big drive from Melbourne just to help out, Mario was seen holding up the bar conversation (with a few others, who will remain nameless) well into the night for an enjoyable weekend. Thanks also to our two scorers, Janet and Diane.

As usual with the RC Laser fleet, there were no protests or yelling, which is great to see, keeping in the spirit of the class. Close battles were fort throughout the fleet, with several places decided on countback. It was also great to see 2 lady skippeets having a go.

Well done to the Portland YC and all of the club members who helped out to make this a great weekend.
