Winners are grinners; SA Marblehead 2018 State Championship
L to R Brett Osborne, Scott Condie and Ray Joyce

Wow; what a great weekend of Marblehead competition; best fleet size in the Country for many years for the Marblehead’s.

Twenty five entries with only one non-starter. Due to the number of competitors the Heat Management System was used which was a new experience to some who had never sailed in an event with so many competitors.

Hart’s Mill was the scheduled venue which provides a great vantage point for competitors and is the venue that has been used in Adelaide to conduct major events and the 2016 Nationals. Dry launching from a large pontoon which is accessed by a long gently sloping ramp makes for easy launching and retrieval.

Day one saw racing commence at near the scheduled starting time after registration and Measurement Certificates were sighted and the breeze settled so that a course could be set. Race Officer “Johno” Johnson kept the racing organised and smoothly organised throughout the day. Lunch was provided; great Hamburgers and steak sandwiches, a cut above Subway fare.

SA RM Bournville Trophy - 9th September

12SEPa

Sunday the 9th September was the scheduled day for competition for the Bournville Trophy.

The day was forecast as 20 degrees with winds falling from 15 k in the morning to 5 k at sunset. A great day for sailing at Harts Mill, Port Adelaide. The change of venue was sanctioned as the original venue became unsuitable due to the weed problem.

The RO Johno Johnson commenced racing at the scheduled time and concluded at 15:30. A rigs were the order of the day. An incident free days racing ensued.

Racing was conducted in a good natured way thanks to the cooperation of all skippers. There was no aggressive or loud comments made between competitors which made the day all the more enjoyable.
