C/QLD IOM Championship - 23./24th June

A host of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Gladstone sailors came to Hervey Bay for the C.Q. I.O.M.Championships. 7 BritPoP’s 5 V10’s, 4 Blitz, 2 Kantun 2s, 1 Kantun S and a Sedici amongst other hull designs made up a fleet of 26.

For the 2 days of the ranking event, racing was sailed in a breeze that ranged from South-West to South-East and from very light to short periods at the top of A rig in strength. Wind variations at this time of year made for a challenge in setting a suitable course, but the high banks along the length of the lake, made for good viewing angles from the control area along the length of the course...more here

ARYA Approves 2019 Nationals Venue

The ARYA has advised the QRYA that their request to change the venue for the 2019 Nationals, has been approved by a majority vote of members.

The new location is Regatta Waters Lake at Oxenford, also known as Coomera Lake.  The QRYA has formed an Event Management Committee to run the Nationals as there is no member club sailing at the selected location.  Equipment. including buoys, launching platforms and a boat have been generously offered by PRYC and individual sailors.  This means that the event is already fully equipped to operate at the new location.  The twin Towns club have offered to staff the 10 Rater event and we are receiving offers from other clubs for similar assistance, all to be formalised in the near future.  The QRYA will be seeking volunteers to fill remaining positions from member clubs.

The site is managed by the Southport Yacht Club (SYC) and leased from the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) for the next 10 years.  As soon as we have formal event approval from the GCCC for the dates we require we will confirm the schedule in our original plan.
